The Letter
It was the year 2019 when I experienced a dreadful encounter with a stranger in my house. It was past midnight and I'm still watching random movies on my laptop and usually, I'm having trouble sleeping.
I don't know how to explain this but that time my room feels strange. Like someone's watching me or something. But I shrugged it off and went to sleep. Later that morning when I looked out my window, I saw a letter. Just a piece of paper folded neatly with a note saying "You are so beautiful. I want to know you better"
My first instinct was "So someone was here last night? spying on me outside my window?!" I was so mad and afraid at the same time.
I don't want to freak out my parents so I immediately called my elder sister and told her what happened. And she told me that maybe it was just a prank from our neighbor’s kids.
They usually come to visit our house since they are not strangers to us, we considered them as a part of our family. And also, their kids are friends with my nephew. So that same day my sister asked those kids if they wrote those letters but they said NO IT WASN'T THEM and they would never do such a thing.
When I found out that it was not their doing, I freak out and I tried calming myself down. And maybe I'm just overreacting and then I told my sister not to tell our parents because we are not sure if this is some kind of prank or not. So, we don't want to make any conclusions or call the cops and worst only to find out that it was just truly a prank.
So, I decided to work on my essay that night and fell asleep. When I woke up it was 11:30 pm, I tried to go back to sleep but my insomnia was so strong that I couldn't sleep anymore.
So, I decided to watch some random movies and YouTube videos just to concentrate my thoughts on other things. When I checked the time, it was now 12:20 so I decided to listen to some music and I was wearing my headphones at that time so I couldn't hear anything from my surroundings beside the loud music that I'm listening to.
I still can't sleep. I thought to myself, and it's now 12:30 am so I closed my laptop, got my phone and checked my social media accounts when suddenly I heard some arguments outside our house.
And from the voices that I heard It sounds like my Dad arguing with someone so I built my courage to step outside and check what was happening and I saw my Dad choking a stranger while holding a rock in his right hand.
The stranger looks like he was in his late 30s and he was smiling like a lunatic even though his face is covered with blood.
I was so shocked by what I was witnessing that time and my Dad shouted at him saying things like "WHY ARE YOU HERE!!! WHY ARE YOU OUTSIDE MY DAUGHTER'S WINDOW!" My blood runs cold from what I was hearing, so he's been there the whole time watching me.
My Dad told me that he heard something that's why he went outside our backyard and saw a shadow. He moved closer to see what it was, then he saw a man beside my window looking at me with no shoes on and half-naked.
That's when my Dad confronted him and used the nearest rock that he could find and smashed it into the man's face. Then, my Dad told me to call the cops and I went back inside my room and called the cops.
But when I looked at my window again, a piece of paper got my attention. I was shaking while holding the letter and opened it. And he wrote things like “I WANT YOU AND BE MINE”. I felt sick while reading it.
When the cops came, he got arrested and I made some statements about what happened and I told them about the letter. I gave it to them, as proof of evidence and when the police checked my bedroom as well outside my window, they saw his footprints all over our backyard.
Then, I realized he wasn't wearing any shoes or anything. When the police questioned him, he told them that he wasn't wearing any shoes so that he can sneak into our backyard quietly while putting the letter inside my window.
And he also confessed that he's been doing this for a month now, watching me through my window. I can't believe that it's been a month and I had no idea about it. We also find out that he has already a record with the same crime from another town. Stalking girls at night. But I'm glad that it's over now and he's in prison.
Unfortunately, until now I'm still having trouble sleeping at night because of what happened.
But I am grateful to have my Dad that night because I couldn't imagine what would happen to me if that man wasn't caught.
